This 156km (97 miles) long walking route generally follows the line of the famous Settle-Carlisle railway. There are many ways of linking Settle and Carlisle, and this suggested walk takes in parts of the Ribble Way, the Pennine Way and the Pennine Bridleway. It takes you through the delights of the Yorkshire Dales National park with its dramatic limestone scenery, and the tranquil Eden Valley.
Along the way you get to see from a different vantage point the masterpieces of Victorian engineering that made the railway possible, and experience the fantastic countryside which makes it the most scenic railway journey in England.
